Last call for comments on WA’s plastic bag ban

Western Australians have another week to comment on the State’s plastic bag ban, which is due to start on July 1, 2018.

Environment Minister Stephen Dawson today encouraged the community to make use of this opportunity, and have a say on the upcoming ban on lightweight single-use plastic bags.

The Department of Water and Environmental Regulation, and Boomerang Alliance have held 15 workshops across the State – from Broome in the north to Albany in the south – to help retailers and shoppers prepare for the ban.

Meetings have also been held in regional areas with local governments, Aboriginal corporations, natural resource management groups and business groups.

To date, almost 2,500 people have responded to the plastic bag ban discussion paper – 88 per cent support the ban.

Submissions to the plastic bag ban close on Friday March 9, 2018.
