Search underway for group of five missing in WA

An air search is currently underway for a missing group of five people including a child.

The group are believed to be travelling in a green Hyundai Excel sedan from Kalgoorlie to the Tjuntjuntjara Community. It is believed the party consists of three adults (2 male and 2 female) as well as an 8 year old male child. Their vehicle may have become bogged as the area has been subject to heavy rainfall in the last few days and roads have subsequently been closed due to flooding and hazardous conditions.

The occupants of the vehicle are believed to be Rex Mitchell (41 years), Janice Stevens (43 years), Bruce Stevens (24 years), Shonna Jamieson (46 years) and an 8 year old male child. Police believe the group departed Kalgoorlie sometime Tuesday 30 January and concerns are held for the groups welfare as it is unknown if they have food or water.

A search plane departed Kalgoorlie this morning with a Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) observer on board to travel to the area and search. Police have notified surrounding pastoral stations.

At this stage there is no land based search due to the inclement weather in the area.
