Premier welcomes new citizens at WA’s biggest citizenship ceremony

Premier Mark McGowan today officially welcomed more than 600 new Australian citizens at the City of Wanneroo citizenship ceremony.

The City of Wanneroo citizenship ceremony has been the biggest in the State for the past five years.

This year the almost 600 new citizens have come from 44 different countries including the United Kingdom, South Africa, the Philippines and India.

The 2016 Census shows 40.9 per cent of residents in the City of Wanneroo were born overseas and 20 per cent of residents speak a language other than English at home.

Across the country, almost 13,000 people were sworn in as Australian citizens with 2,829 people receiving their citizenship today in Western Australia.
