71 year old arrested in 1979 child sexual abuse case

Joondalup Detectives and Perth Detectives have charged a 71 year old man as a result of their extensive investigation into historical child sexual abuse allegations. Both of the allegations stem from the Royal Commission into institutional responses to child sexual offences.

In 1979 it is alleged the man indecently assaulted a boy who was 13 years old at the time of the first two offences. It is further alleged that the man indecently assaulted the boy when he was 14 years old. The alleged incidents occurred whilst the man was a teacher at a Catholic School in Bedford.

Between 1986 and 1987 it is further alleged the man sexually assaulted a boy who was 13 years old at the time of the first offence. The alleged incidents occurred whilst the man was a teacher at a Catholic College in Tuart Hill.

Both of the incidents occurred at each school and during a school camp. The man also acted as the school nurse and student counsellor at both schools.

The man from the Wheatbelt District has been charged with:

  • Four counts of Aggravated Indecent Assault.
  • Three counts of Indecent Dealing of a Child under 14 years.
  • One count of Unlawfully and Indecently Assaulted a Male.

He is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court today, 17 January 2018.
