Whiteman Park celebrates International Volunteer Day 2017

Hundreds of volunteers for Whiteman Park and its associated interest groups were honoured today as part of International Volunteer Day 2017 celebrations.

Planning Minister Rita Saffioti acknowledged the important contribution volunteers made towards Whiteman Park’s success.

Ms Saffioti presented four certificates of achievement to volunteer-run attractions, including:

  • Motor Museum of WA for securing Daniel Ricciardo’s 2014 Red Bull Formula 1 race car for display in its recent museum extension;
  • Whiteman Park Hand Craft Centre for 25 years of operating in the park; and
  • Perth Electric Tramway Society for 25 years of operating the Fremantle Tram in the park, and for the 100th birthday of Tram 66.

Whiteman Park attracts more than one million visitors annually, making it the most popular attraction in the Swan Valley and the second most visited attraction in Perth – second only to Kings Park.

International Volunteer Day is an annual United Nations initiative. It is a day for volunteers and volunteer-based organisations to celebrate their efforts, share their values, and showcase the difference they make in their communities.
