WA seafood stars take out national awards

The Western Australian winners at the biennial National Seafood Industry Awards have been congratulated by Fisheries Minister Dave Kelly.

WA hooked the Seafood Industry Producers, Environment ,Young Achiever and Promotion awards at an industry celebration in Sydney overnight.

The world’s first commercial abalone ranch, Ocean Grown Abalone at Augusta, won the Seafood Industry Producers Award, recognising the company’s innovation and efforts to satisfy industry challenges.

Integrated commercial fishing company, Austral Fisheries, received the Environment Award, acknowledging its green credentials and efforts to become the first seafood business in the world to be certified carbon neutral.

Fremantle Octopus operations manager Asher Flynn won the national Young Achiever Award for his efforts to promote and market octopus as a premium quality seafood product to chefs and restaurants at home and abroad.

The Mandurah’s Licensed Fishermen’s Association collected the honour for the best seafood industry promotion in Australia and Albany’s popular Ocean and Paddock seafood restaurant received a highly commended certificate in the judged fish and chips award.
