Increased private sector support for major performing arts companies

The Australian Major Performing Arts Group’s annual fundraising survey shows huge increase in support for its member companies.

The survey found the largest percentage increase in philanthropic support from the corporate sector and private donors since 2011

Revenue from donations, corporate sponsorship and fundraising events in Australia’s major performing arts sector grew by 15.2 per cent in 2016 to a total of $95.7 million.

This contributed 17 per cent of total income for major performing arts companies in 2016.

The biggest increase was in donations – rising from $10.3 million to $53.5 million in 2016. This represents 57 per cent of total private sector support, up from 54 per cent in 2015.

Some other key findings include:

  • income from fundraising events increased from $1.4 million to $4.1 million
  • a total of 43,485 individual donations in 2016
  • a faster increase in donations compared to corporate sponsorships.
