The first five Jobs and Skills Centres were launched today, creating increased access to job-related services for Western Australians.
The centres are a one-stop-shop for students, jobseekers and career changers looking to improve their skills and job prospects. Staff at the centres will provide free professional and practical advice on training and employment opportunities, career advice and apprenticeship and training information.
Jobs and Skills Centres will engage with local communities and industries so they can respond to the needs of both jobseekers and employers.
They will provide businesses with free assistance to develop their workforce, including recruiting new workers, apprentices and trainees, and develop the skills of their existing workers.
Aboriginal people are a key priority client group for the new services. Extensive stakeholder consultation has been undertaken on how best to incorporate and enhance the services previously provided, to ensure Aboriginal people benefit from the new service delivery model.
The first five metropolitan Jobs and Skills Centres are now open. A further eight centres, as well as a number of outreach services, will be established in regional areas throughout WA during 2018-19.
The centres are complemented by the Jobs and Skills WA website, which is a comprehensive one-stop online shop for information about WA vocational education and training, careers and jobs.
