Broome man, 44, arrested on child sexual abuse charges

Kimberley Joint Response Team detectives have charged a 44 year old man as a result of their investigation into allegations of child sexual abuse and exploitation.

It is alleged between October 2016 and December 2017, the man sexually assaulted a boy and a girl who were nine years old at the time of the first offence. It will also be alleged the man indecently recorded them.

During the execution of a search warrant at the man’s home, numerous electronic storage devices were located and seized. It is alleged these storage devices belonged to the man and preliminary assessment of these devices identified images of child exploitation material. The investigation is continuing as detectives continue to analyse information obtained from the seized storage devices.

The man from the Broome area has been charged with:

  • 77 counts of Indecent Recording of a Child under 13 years;
  • 14 counts of Indecent Dealing of a Child under 13 years;
  • Nine counts of Procured a Child under 13 years to do an Indecent Act;
  • Two counts of Persistent Sexual Conduct with a Child under 16 years; and
  • One count of Sexual Penetration of a Child under 13 years of age.

He is next due to appear before the Broome Magistrates Court on Monday, 14 May 2018.
