Interpreting students on pathway to vital profession

Citizenship and Multicultural Interests Minister Paul Papalia today announced the Interpreting Scholarship recipients for the Diploma in Interpreting (LOTE-English) Program.

Scholarship recipients were acknowledged at the North Metropolitan TAFE Festival of English, which celebrates the many English Language studies and services on offer at the campus.

A total of 15 scholarships have been supported by the State Government with up to $500 per scholarship, through the Office of Multicultural Interests (OMI), towards a diploma.

Interpreters are recognised on the State Priority Occupation List and are essential in a number of sectors including healthcare, social welfare and legal services.

The scholarships in interpreting offered by OMI are a step towards making these courses available for all.
