First look at Perth Children’s Hospital as opening dates revealed

Perth Children’s Hospital (PCH) is set to receive its first patients, through outpatient appointments, from Monday May 14, 2018.

Premier Mark McGowan and Health Minister Roger Cook yesterday confirmed the staged opening timeline during a community tour at Perth Children’s Hospital.

The staged opening will run over four weeks with the first outpatient clinics on Monday, May 14 followed two weeks later by the commencement of elective surgery on Monday, May 28.

The final move day for all remaining patients at Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) is due to take place on Sunday, June 10 – when the PCH emergency department opens.

Patients from the Bentley Adolescent Unit are also due to arrive at PCH within a week of final move day.

Confirmation of the PCH opening schedule follows Mr Cook’s announcement that the hospital’s potable water is safe to drink after meeting Australian Drinking Water Guidelines and being signed off by the Chief Health Officer.

This significant milestone follows the decision the State Government took to accept practical completion of the project, fix the water issues and get the hospital open.

More than 1,700 Western Australians, many of them families, took the opportunity to go behind the scenes at PCH yesterday and enjoyed a free guided tour of the state-of the-art hospital.

The free public tours included a guided walk through the hospital’s outpatient clinic, the Fun on Four play area, a patient ward and the hospital atrium.
