Vision for a more compact and connected Perth

Housing Minister Peter Tinley has outlined the State Government’s vision for a more compact and connected city with improved housing affordability and diversity.

Addressing the Property Council of Australia’s Multi-unit Housing Conference in Perth, Mr Tinley highlighted the Government’s plan to leverage residential density and urban infill opportunities.

The Government aims to deliver affordable homes as part of its METRONET vision and is currently developing its Affordable Housing Action Plan for release in mid-2018.

The housing action plan will focus on five key areas:

  • Connection between people, place and home;
  • Real and enduring affordability for those on low-to-moderate incomes;
  • Earlier and more connected housing and support services;
  • Creation of diverse precincts that will include options for low-income earners; and
  • Diversity of options to meet diversity of need.

The Minister said the community would not accept greater density in future developments unless the principles of people, place and home were integrated without compromising the built and natural environment.

“The challenge facing us all, as Perth grows, is to create diverse and affordable housing choices in vibrant and liveable communities.

“With greater housing density and diversity and improved public transport systems, we can create a more compact and connected city with better places and spaces for people to work, play and call home,” said Tinley.

The Government is actively seeking opportunities to better use existing infrastructure and innovative technologies; and wants to work with the Property Council of Australia for the social and economic prosperity of Western Australia.

  1. Hello ,

    I saw your tweet about animals and thought I will check your website. I like it!

    I love pets. I have two beautiful thai cats called Tammy(female) and Yommo(male). Yommo is 1 year older than Tommy. He acts like a bigger brother for her. 🙂
    I have even created an Instagram account for them and probably soon they will have more followers than me (kinda funny).

    I wanted to subscribe to your newsletter, but I couldn’t find it. Do you have it?

    Keep up the good work on your blog.

    Regards
