Housing Minister Peter Tinley has announced the future of the Bentley Regeneration Project – a diverse mix of at least 1,500 new homes in a revitalised and connected community.
The project’s new name, Bentley 360, refers to the holistic approach currently underway to ensure a positive impact on the wider Bentley community, economy and environment.
The redevelopment will include the demolition of the 48-year-old Brownlie Towers public housing complex, which has reached the end of its useful life as public housing.
The Department of Communities is currently working with Brownlie Towers’ remaining tenants to relocate them to suitable accommodation as soon as possible. A tender will be called in the coming months, with demolition of the complex expected within 12 to 18 months.
In outlining the project, the Minister also announced a temporary place activation strategy for the Bentley 360 project that will focus on three key areas – Taree Street Boulevard, an adventure designation park and a passive recreation space.
These spaces will operate as community spaces until further development occurs on their respective land areas. Stage one will see the removal of fences on the north of the site, and the provision of pathways and fitness trails for recreation and children’s play facilities.
The department will start the procurement process for a development partner for Bentley 360 before the end of June 2018.
