Agreement brings Ocean Reef Marina closer

A new agreement between LandCorp and the City of Joondalup has set the framework for the development of the new Ocean Reef Marina precinct in Perth’s north.

The world-class development, with a planned 550 boat pens, more than 200 boat stackers, an expected 1,000 houses and apartments, and 12,000 square metres of retail and commercial space, will create a new hub of recreational amenity, living opportunities and tourism in our fast-growing northern corridor.

The precinct is also expected to include hotel and short-stay accommodation.

A Memorandum of Understanding signed today by Lands Minister Rita Saffioti, LandCorp chief operations officer Dean Mudford, City of Joondalup Mayor Albert Jacob and City of Joondalup chief executive officer Garry Hunt, outlines how the two parties will work together to develop the vision, detailed design and delivery of the marina.

The formal agreement follows last year’s commitment by the State Government of $120 million in funding for the marina over the life of the project, beginning with a $35 million allocation over the next four years.

Ultimately, the project is expected to attract private sector funding totalling more than $500 million, and create hundreds of jobs in construction and in local businesses once open.

Development of the marina will be led by LandCorp, working closely with the City of Joondalup and other stakeholders.

The Metropolitan Region Scheme Amendment and Public Environmental Review processes have been submitted for approval, and a project team is now in place.

Construction is expected to begin on the new marina in 2020. On completion, it will offer world-class boating, tourism and recreational facilities together with a variety of retail, commercial and living opportunities within a high amenity area.
