AFLW ticket proceeds donated to charity

Women’s Interests Minister Simone McGurk today presented cheques totalling $90,798 to the Starlight Children’s Foundation and the Fremantle Dockers Foundation.

The donation was a result of the 54,000 tickets sold to the inaugural AFL Women’s match between Fremantle and Collingwood at Optus Stadium on February 10, 2018.

Representatives from the Starlight Children’s Foundation and the Fremantle Dockers Foundation accepted the cheques today ahead of Fremantle’s AFLW match against Greater Western Sydney at Fremantle Oval.

The Starlight Children’s Foundation will use the proceeds to continue its work in granting wishes, and brightening the lives of seriously ill children and their families.

The Fremantle Dockers Foundation will allocate its share of the funds to further develop grassroots football programs in the community.

More than 41,900 people attended the inaugural AFLW match at Optus Stadium, breaking the attendance record for an AFLW match and the 89-year-old Australian sporting record for the biggest attendance at a standalone women’s sporting match.
