Community sporting grants benefit clubs throughout WA

Sporting clubs and local governments from all over the State have received funding for important upgrades to facilities – boosting local sport, supporting small businesses, and creating jobs in the suburbs and the regions.

Basketball and netball facilities, floodlighting and new ovals and pavilions are just some of the projects that have been granted funding in the latest round of the Community Sport and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF).

Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray today announced the $9,354,602 funding package, supporting major projects at 16 sporting facilities.

Projects receiving funding in this annual and forward planning grants round include:

  • City of Wanneroo: $500,000 to upgrade amenities at Kingsway Netball Courts;
  • Shire of Denmark: $320,015 for the reconstruction of McLean Park;
  • Willetton Basketball Association: $1.5 million for the expansion of Willetton Basketball Stadium;
  • City of Wanneroo: $100,000 for floodlighting at Heath Park, Eglinton;
  • City of Wanneroo: $400,000 for pavilion construction at Belhaven Reserve;
  • City of Cockburn: $1.5 million for the development of a multipurpose sport and recreation reserve at Frankland Park Reserve;
  • Rockingham Tennis Club: $125,000 for the construction of change rooms and toilets;
  • City of Melville: $800,000 for the construction of change rooms and floodlighting at Shirley Strickland Reserve;
  • The University of Western Australia: $600,000 to upgrade floodlighting at UWA Sports Park;
  • City of Joondalup: $126,500 to upgrade floodlighting at Kingsley Park;
  • City of Mandurah: $1.3 million to develop three ovals with floodlighting at Lakelands District Open Space;
  • Shire of Murray: $251,000 to develop a skate park and pump track;
  • Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale: $1 million to improve drainage and install floodlights at Briggs Park;
  • Shire of Pingelly: $144,367 to construct a 10-rink synthetic bowling green at the Pingelly Recreation and Cultural Centre;
  • Shire of Koorda: $251,883 to upgrade the change rooms at Koorda Recreation Centre; and
  • Shire of Wongan-Ballidu: $435,837 to relocate six synthetic grass tennis courts, including lighting and fencing.
