Grants to target local communities to be active

Local community, government and sporting groups are being invited to apply for grants to encourage people to join a club and become more active.

The Targeted Participation Program helps community organisations such as clubs, State Sporting Associations and local governments to promote participation in sport and active recreation.

Projects must increase participation in physical activity and encourage pathways into community sport and active recreation – such as local clubs. They must be projects that create quality, affordable opportunities to engage groups that would not usually participate.

In 2018, the program will focus on demographics such as the Aboriginal community, girls aged 12 to 17, people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse backgrounds, people with disability, seniors 60 plus and youth at-risk.

The priority local government areas are Armadale, Belmont, Canning, Gosnells, Kwinana, Rockingham, Stirling, Swan, Wanneroo; and in the Goldfields, Kimberley, Mid-West and Pilbara regions.

Applicants may request funding between $5,000 and $15,000, with projects to commence between July 1, 2018 and June 30, 2019. The current round is now open and closes on February 28, 2018.
