Youth Engagement Scheme to promote community connections

More than a dozen projects which engage at-risk young people in sport and recreation activities have been granted funding.

In the latest round of the Youth Engagement Scheme (YES),14 groups have been granted a total of $250,000 for projects which will strengthen local communities by engaging disconnected youth.

The scheme supports local governments and not-for-profit organisations to deliver programs to at-risk youth aged eight to 18 years old who live in lower socioeconomic areas in metropolitan Perth and regional Western Australia.

In this round, projects in the metropolitan area and regional centres range from a youth intervention holiday initiative to soccer, dance, basketball and football programs.

Projects funded in this round include:

  • $30,000 to Edmund Rice Centre for the Common Goal Soccer Academy;
  • $15,000 to Football West for Street Football;
  • $15,000 to Whitelion Youth Agency for the Ballajura Engagement Project;
  • $30,000 to Roebourne PCYC towards a Sports Activity Co-ordinator; and
  • $15,000 to Outback Academy for the Wheeling and Healing social inclusion program.
