Police search for driver with possible connection to Sawyers Valley bushfire

Detectives from the Arson Squad’s Strike Force Vulcan are seeking the public’s assistance with their investigation into a bushfire that occurred in Sawyers Valley yesterday, 14 January 2018.

Around 8:35am, emergency services were called to a bushfire on Gorrie Road near Chamber Road. By late afternoon the fire was still burning and had jumped Mundaring Weir and was burning approximately 4000 hectares of bushland.

The fire is being treated as suspicious and Strike Force Vulcan officers are investigating the circumstances surrounding the cause of the fire.

Detectives would like to speak to the driver of a grey early 2000 model Ford Falcon (similar to the one shown) that was seen on Gorrie Road in the area of Hancock Brook. It is believed the driver maybe able to assist with their inquiry.

Rewards of up to $50,000 are available for information that leads to the identification and conviction of an arsonist.
