WA sailing legend Jon Sanders completes 10th circumnavigation

Record-breaking Western Australian yachting legend Jon Sanders AO OBE CitWA today completed his 10th circumnavigation of the world.

Mr Sanders arrived in Carnarvon today, having set sail aboard his trusted 26-year-old yacht, the SV Perie Banou II, from Fremantle in October 2016. It was his sixth solo round-the-world voyage.

The Western Australian sailing legend made history in 1988 when he completed his first solo, non-stop triple navigation of the globe, travelling 71,000 nautical miles in 658 days.

Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray lauded the 78-year-old, who underwent open heart surgery in 2015, for this latest achievement in his extraordinary sailing career.
