$2 million grant for Mindarie-Burns Beach dual use path

The WA Government has allocated $2 million to build a dual pathway in Tamala Conservation Park to connect Mindarie with Burns Beach.

It will be the final link in a 58 kilometre coastal route from Quinns Rocks almost all the way to Fremantle, providing new coastal vantage points for walkers and cyclists alike.

The 4.9 kilometre pathway will also include a physical millipede barrier to ensure the pest is kept at bay from spreading to neighbouring properties.

The millipede plague that have previously affected the park’s neighbouring properties will be stopped with the combination of a physical barrier and biological controls.

The chosen alignment for the dual use pathway will ensure the protection of the foredune system and minimal vegetation disturbance while optimising coastal views and appropriate path levels to suit all users.

A WA Planning Commission grant will assist with the construction of the path following planning and environmental approvals to be progressed by the end of the financial year.

The cities of Joondalup and Wanneroo will fund the remaining cost and contribute resources including technical support, labour, materials and equipment.
