As result of an investigation by Kensington Detectives and Regional Investigations Unit, a 36 year old man has been charged with counterfeit money offences.
Detectives identified and linked a number of incidents that occurred in the Perth metropolitan area involving counterfeit Australian $50 notes.
Yesterday, Wednesday 6 December 2017, Kensington Police attended an address in South Perth for an unrelated matter. A man and woman were located inside the address and items allegedly used in the manufacture of counterfeit currency were located.
During the search of the premises, police located and seized:
· Approximately 100 semi completed counterfeit $50 notes ($5,000). These notes were in various stages of completion;
· A laptop computer, combination printer/scanner and assorted tools, templates, stencils, dyes, paper, ink and other material, namely plastic adhesive sheeting which were consistent with items required for making counterfeit money.
A 36 year old Thornlie man has been charged with one count each of Making Counterfeit Money; Possess Instruments for Counterfeiting; Possess Materials used for Counterfeiting; Knowingly Utter Counterfeit Money.
The woman was released without charge.
The man appeared in the Perth Magistrates Court today (Thursday 7 December 2017) and his next court date is Friday 12 January 2018.
