Food relief to Western Australians in need will be better co-ordinated and more effective, thanks to a project to be developed by the Western Australian Council of Social Service (WACOSS).
Community Services Minister Simone McGurk today announced that Lotterywest is providing WACOSS with $340,568 to develop a framework which identifies food relief providers throughout the State. It will map out how food relief recipients and stakeholders can work together more effectively.
The need for a co-ordinated approach was identified by Lotterywest after stakeholders had expressed concerns that their services were too heavily crisis and supply driven.
They also said they had limited understanding of the demand for food relief because of a lack of quantitative and qualitative data.
The project is expected to begin shortly and be completed by January 2019.
