Grants to help protect natural resources across Perth

The State Government has today announced $881,000 towards local protection and improvement of natural assets across the Perth metropolitan region.

A total of 29 community projects have been funded through the State Natural Resource Management Program’s Community Action Grants.

Grant projects include:

  • Protecting critically endangered western swamp tortoise habitats;
  • Reducing the impact of feral foxes on native fauna across seven local councils in Perth’s south-west;
  • Educating the community in the biodiversity of Bush Forever Site 325 and Marmion Marine Park;
  • The restoration of Bull Creek catchment, Booragoon and Blue Gum Lake, Canning River foreshore and Jane Brook foreshore reserve; and
  • Revegetation and environmental workshops for the habitat corridor between the Beeliar Wetlands and the Indian Ocean.

Schools, not-for-profit organisations, local government and environmental conservation groups have been successful in receiving funding support of up to $55,000 as part of the 2017-18 Community Action Grants round.

State Government support for these Perth-based projects will be complemented by $1.5 million worth of cash and in-kind effort from the participating groups and their partners.

The State Government has also allocated $3.5 million towards local community projects in rural and regional Western Australia.
