Review recommends Western Australian Visitor Centre revamp

Tourism Western Australia will be making changes to the Western Australian Visitor Centre’s (WAVC) information and booking services, with a new model to be implemented next year.

The WAVC, which provides and displays information on a wide range of destinations, attractions and tourism products across the State, has seen a drop in visitor numbers due largely to more people accessing destination information via their mobile phones and other devices.

Tourism WA is considering different options for the centre’s location, including remaining in the current building at the corner of William and Murray streets in Perth and potentially moving to a new location in the future, such as Elizabeth Quay.

Modifications will be made to the existing centre, including removing the external advertising on windows and updating the interior to make it a more welcoming space.

While there will be some technological upgrades to the new centre, the aim will be to make it more people-focused so visitors can speak to an experienced travel counsellor who can help them with their specific needs.

A review of the centre by Destination Think! recommended a shift of focus from the Western Australian Visitor Centre to the Western Australian Experience Centre.

A tender for the centre’s operation is currently in development and will be released early next year, with all interested parties encouraged to apply – including not-for-profit providers and individual operators.
