A new training program at Muresk Institute will equip the next generation of agricultural leaders with business and management skills, while teaching them how to take advantage of emerging industry and technological trends.
The Emerging Leaders in Agriculture, Technology and Enterprise (ELATE) program is aimed at emerging female leaders and will include topics such as operational planning, contemporary farming practices using technology, effective workplace relations, succession planning and ensuring safe workplaces.
The ELATE program, launched today on the inaugural National Agriculture Day by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery, aims to improve productivity and develop a highly skilled rural workforce with clear employment pathways.
Muresk Institute has worked with industry to create a tailored curriculum, using learnings from on-site research initiatives, to ensure graduates have the skills they need to meet industry needs.
Industry leaders will also be involved as guest lecturers, including former winners and finalists for the State and national Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation Rural Woman of the Year.
The 12-month program will be delivered from 2018 in three residential blocks to enable participants to attend from across the State.
Graduates will achieve a nationally recognised Diploma of Leadership and Management upon completion.
Agriculture is Australia’s second biggest export industry, with agricultural production in 2016-17 valued at $60 billion.
