Increased funding for parenting support

More than $1.8 million has been awarded to Ngala Family Services for its Residential Parenting Service in Kensington, an increase in funding from the WA Government of more than $400,000.

The funding is for the first year of the service agreement, which will run until June 2022.

The service is available on a universal basis, providing specialised support for parents who are experiencing difficulties in caring for their children, up to the age of six years old.

An interdisciplinary team assists parents to address issues with sleep, feeding and nutrition, child development and behaviour. The team also provides early intervention when a family may be at risk of entering the child protection system.

The service consists of a day stay service and an extended stay service, and also contributes to the Department of Communities’ Earlier Intervention and Family Support strategy, Building Safe and Strong Families.
