The preparatory works to fix one of the most congested roads in Perth’s north-eastern corridor are underway, with the New Lord Street project team now on-site.
Early works, including relocating utility services, site and foundation preparation and building a temporary access road to Whiteman Park, have commenced.
The initial works will continue through until the end of the year, paving the way for heavy construction to begin early in the new year.
Upon completion in October 2018, the New Lord Street project will provide a dual carriageway between Reid Highway and Gnangara Road.
The project will include roundabouts at the intersections of Park Street and Youle-Dean Road, a shared path to improve access to Whiteman Park, a new bus station and bus priority measures.
The upgrade will relieve pressure on the existing Lord Street, a single carriageway used by about 14,000 vehicles a day.
The southbound approach to the Marshall Road roundabout is a well-known congestion hot spot, with commuters experiencing queues of up to 2.5 kilometres during morning peak hour.
