Excellence in WA’s resources sector shines brightly

Five outstanding Western Australian resources projects were acknowledged at the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety’s Awards for Excellence ceremony last night.

The department judges said it was difficult to choose the winners, as all the nominees achieved excellent outcomes for their local communities and the State.

Iluka Resources won the Systems and People category for their partnership with Dardanup farmers, Peter and Judy Milton, and their steer named Winston.

The partnership is an innovative approach to raising awareness on mental health issues within the workforce, resources industry and wider community.

Fortescue Metals Group won the Safety Representatives category for creating a Safety Barometer that identifies the impact attitude and distraction can have on safety.

Rio Tinto took out the Engineering category for their rail-mounted working at heights platform.

The Kalgoorlie-Boulder Urban Landcare Group and Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines partnership won the Community Partnership Resources Sector Award.

The highly prized Golden Gecko Award was presented to Hanson Construction Materials and Kings Park and Botanic Gardens for their restoration guide at Banksia Woodlands.
