Rottnest Island powers up new app

Rottnest Island’s renewable power generation can now be viewed in real time with the new Water and Renewable Energy Nexus project mobile phone app.

The app is designed to take you on a journey through the renewable energy scheme that is making Rottnest Island more self-sufficient and sustainable.

Rottnest Island, in collaboration with HydroTasmania’s Hybrid Energy Solutions and the Australian Renewable Energy Agency, has been moving towards locally produced clean energy.

Rottnest Island now generates about 45 per cent of its energy from renewable resources of wind and solar power, greatly reducing the use of transported diesel fuel to the Island.
