Review of pharmacy ownership public consultation open now

Western Australians are being invited to provide input into a review of the State’s pharmacy ownership laws.

Conducted by the Department of Health, the review is part of a push to support community pharmacies in their role as a trusted partner in delivering health services.

As part of the review, the department will be consulting with the pharmacy industry and other stakeholders to consider whether the current regulations are sufficient to maintain the integrity of the sector and in keeping with current practices and emerging trends.

The pharmacy sector is currently undergoing a period of innovation and change in line with the rapidly changing nature of the health care environment, and advances in technology. This includes new ownership models.

The consultation period is open from today until December 8, 2017, with the department providing a report to the Government by the end of March 2018. Anyone wishing to provide comment on pharmacy ownership can visit http://www.health.wa.gov.au and address the specific consultation questions.
