The first stage of the Onslow Marine Support Base opened today.
The base is a privately funded project that will eventually be developed into a service hub for vessels operating throughout north-west Western Australia’s offshore oil and gas fields.
Stage one of the project involved the construction of a berth pocket in Beadon Creek to form a land-based wharf facility.
It is anticipated the completed project will be a world-class marine supply base with the capability to cater for any size vessel, while providing employment for hundreds of people.
The State Government has assisted the project by providing improved infrastructure such as roads, services and a laydown area.
The Department of Transport in particular has given access to its expertise in dredging, managing the waterway and made available its planners and coastal engineers for advice.
Meanwhile, the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation has assisted the project to navigate the necessary government approvals.
