RAC Sponsorship Manager Carina McBurnie said the RAC was proud to continue its support of the RAC WA Sports Star Awards.

“The Awards are a great opportunity to celebrate excellence in sport and to recognise the contribution of sport to local communities, aligning with RAC’s commitment to giving back to its members and Western Australia,” Mrs McBurnie said.

WA Sports Federation Board Chairman Michael Beros says the move to Perth Stadium continues the growth of the awards, as the WA Sports Federation marks 20 years of WA’s most prestigious sports awards under its custodianship.

“Sport in Western Australia is so entrenched in our way of life that it knows no boundaries. It really is the gel that connects communities.

“Built for all West Australians, Perth Stadium represents an exciting evolution for the RAC WA Sports Star Awards, and we’re very excited about being able to celebrate our wonderful sporting heritage in such a new and iconic WA landmark,” said Mr Beros.

Perth Stadium CEO Mike McKenna welcomed the event to the stadium.

“We are delighted that the 2017 RAC WA Sports Star Awards will be one of the first major gala events held at Perth Stadium. It’s befitting that the Awards will recognise and celebrate the achievements of Western Australian sporting identities in the State’s brand new world-class sports stadium. Guests will enjoy sweeping views of the Swan River and CBD, and outstanding catering from our in-house team,” said Mr McKenna.

The launch of the event last night also marked the opening of nominations and ticket sales for the event taking place on Thursday, 8 February 2018, available at rac.com.au/sportsstar
