Inaugural Lake Burley Griffin Water Week Challenge Cup

The National Capital Authority (NCA) will kick start Canberra’s National Water Week activities on Sunday 15 October 2017 with the Lake Burley Griffin Water Week Challenge Cup kayak race.

The Executive Director of the NCA’s National Capital Estate, Lachlan Wood, said the NCA has partnered with AROC SPORT to launch National Water Week with a kayak race.

“Anyone over 18 years can enter and we’re encouraging everyone to form teams of three people and to enter the race from Commonwealth Place, around the Captain Cook Memorial Jet and back.”

“The event will mark the beginning of Lake Burley Griffin’s recreational season, which will last for 27 weeks, ending on 14 April 2018,” Mr Wood said.

“We’re also launching the new Swim Guide App and website, which will provide weekly updates on water quality in Lake Burley Griffin,” Mr Wood said.

The Lake Burley Griffin Water Week Challenge Cup kayak race will take place on Sunday 15 October from 11.00am.

The theme for National Water Week this year is Water  the Heart of our Culture.

Lake Burley Griffin is synonymous with Canberra and our friendly competition is a reminder of how the Lake creates a more liveable city, bringing us together for celebrations and events.
