AFP seeking man over child sex offence

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) is seeking information on the location of a 56-year-old Slovenian national believed to be in Australia.

On 13 July 2017, an Extradition Arrest Warrant was issued for Joze Smit (aka Joza Smit and Joseph Smit) who is believed to be in Australia. He is wanted in Slovenia to face charges relating to an alleged child sex offence.

An age progression image of the 56-year-old showing an artist’s impression of his current appearance is available on the AFP’s Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages.

Smit was last seen in Melbourne in 2014. Information provided to the AFP suggests he had intended to work in mines, presumably in Western Australia or western areas of Queensland or NSW.

People who may be friends or relatives of Smit, or have any information on his current whereabouts, are urged to come forward.

Members of the public should not approach Smit if they believe they have had contact with him, or are aware of his location.

Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Information can be provided anonymously.
