A new website, tourisminvestment.com.au, is now Australia’s primary digital platform for the promotion and attraction of tourism investment.
Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, Steven Ciobo MP, launched the website at an Investment and Northern Australia reception in Singapore on 23 August.
The event, which was attended by Singaporean investors, was held to raise awareness of the untapped opportunity in northern Australia, of which tourism is a significant component.
‘We recognise that for Australia to remain a competitive tourism destination, investment in tourism infrastructure must continue to be a priority, ensuring increased accommodation in capital cities, world-class business event facilities, revitalised regional offerings, and outstanding leisure attractions,’ says Minister Ciobo in a media release.
‘Recognising the importance of the Chinese market, both in terms of its visitor and investment potential, a simplified Chinese version of the website is also available,’ Minister Ciobo said. The Chinese version is available at tourisminvestment.com.au/zh.
International arrival and spend figures are fuelling record levels of hotel investment. Tourism Research Australia (TRA) says there are approximately A$7.6 billion worth of accommodation projects, providing a potential 15,900 new rooms, in the pipeline.
TRA also reports that Australia’s total tourism investment project pipeline, which includes projects across aviation, accommodation and arts, recreation and the business services sectors, currently has 173 projects worth approximately A$59.8 billion.
