The Inspector-General of the Australian Defence Force (IGADF) wants to hear from anyone with information concerning rumours of possible breaches of the Laws of Armed Conflict by members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) in Afghanistan between 2005 and 2016.
The IGADF provides an avenue – independent of the military chain of command – for internal review of military justice and other matters concerning the ADF.
The IGADF Afghanistan Inquiry is examining whether or not there is any substance to rumours of possible breaches of Laws of Armed Conflict in Afghanistan.
New South Wales Supreme Court Judge and Army Reserve Major General, the Honourable Paul Brereton, is the Assistant IGADF leading this independent Inquiry.
“While the Inquiry has already spoken to many sources, we would like to hear from anyone else who has any relevant information,” Major General Brereton said.
“Whether you saw something yourself, or heard others talking about it, we would like you to contact us.
“The Inquiry is being conducted in private and the identity of anyone providing information can be protected and kept confidential, and arrangements can be made for information to be received face-to-face,” Major General Brereton said.
The Inquiry commenced in May 2016.
