Wheatbelt appointment to drive growth in development opportunities

Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan today announced the appointment of Rebecca Tomkinson as chairperson of the Wheatbelt Development Commission board.

Ms Tomkinson brings to the role extensive experience in the delivery of transformative organisational and community development initiatives in the not-for-profit, public and private sectors.

Currently the executive director of MercyCare’s Aged Care Services division, Ms Tomkinson has overseen major service delivery, stakeholder engagement, community development and cost reduction initiatives for Baptistcare WA, Uniting Care Australia and Bankwest. She has also held key advisory roles in strategic policy.

The appointment replaces outgoing chairperson Tim Shackleton, who has made a significant contribution to the Wheatbelt region during his service.

MacTiernan said “Rebecca’s credentials and experience are impressive and it’s fantastic to have such a high-calibre leader at the helm of the Wheatbelt Development Commission board.

“Her commitment to improving the lives of the most vulnerable members of our community, and influencing public policy, are valuable assets for the role.

“This dedication to communities, along with her experience across sectors and stakeholder networks, will help to further develop economic and jobs growth in the region.

“The Government also recognise the valuable contribution made by outgoing chairperson Tim Shackleton.”
