Environmental heroes honoured at 2017 WA Landcare Awards

A landcare group working on the edge of the Nullarbor and a Wheatbelt flora expert are just two of the winners of the 2017 Western Australian Landcare Awards presented last night in Perth.

Spinifex Land Management, based in the remote community of Tjuntjuntjara, were awarded the Indigenous Land Management Award for their collaborative work combining traditional and contemporary land management practices to keep Spinifex people, culture and land healthy.

Dowerin nursery owner Rob Boase was presented with the Individual Landcarer Award for his tireless work protecting unique and rare flora and vegetation across the Wheatbelt, and for his contribution to revegetation projects, cultivating a number of plant species through his nursery.

All of the winners will represent WA in their respective award categories at the 2018 National Landcare Awards to be held next year.

The State and Territory Landcare Awards in Western Australia are co-ordinated by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, and supported by Landcare Australia with funding from the Australian Government’s National Landcare Programme.
