The Midland PCYC first opened its doors in 1941.
It shut down towards the end of last year to undergo long overdue renovations as part of a State-wide infrastructure upgrade program.
The upgrades included a refurbished commercial kitchen, upgraded flooring, new front entrance, shed and storage extensions, new cabinetry and bathroom facilities.
The main hall has been named the Sue Gordon Hall, in recognition of Dr Gordon’s continued support of the WA PCYC movement.
PCYC is one of the biggest recreational organisations in the State that caters specifically for young people.
The relaunched Midland centre offers an expanded range of sports and recreational activities including boxing, basketball, judo, Muay Thai, hip hop and music classes.
Police Minister Michelle Roberts said “PCYCs across Western Australia play a key role in giving our young people a supportive environment in which they can be challenged, educated and engaged.
“Sport and other activities on offer through PCYCs are a fantastic avenue to build a young person’s self-esteem and offer them the opportunity to have fun and interact socially, and in a positive way.
“I’d also like to thank and recognise the efforts of Sue Gordon who has been a strong advocate of improving the lives of young people.
“The State Government remains committed to the future of PCYC and ensuring the community continues to benefit from its outstanding work.”
