Gary West dies at 57 after Motor Neurone battle

Iconic cycling coach Gary West passed away on the weekend following a battle with Motor Neurone Disease.

Australian Sports Commission CEO Kate Palmer paid tribute to Gary saying “Australian sport has lost a wonderful man, coach and ambassador.

“It was wonderful to see Gary inducted into the AIS Best of the Best at last year’s AIS Sport Performance Awards and for him to accept that award beside, Anna Meares, the champion athlete who he worked so closely with.

“We pay our respect to Gary’s legacy, and offer our condolences to his family, friends and the cycling community who he so positively influenced.”
