The government today launched a consultation process seeking broad input on Australia’s space industry capability.
This consultation process supports the review of Australia’s space industry capability, which is being undertaken by an Expert Reference Group, chaired by Dr Megan Clark AO.
This is a timely review of Australia’s involvement in a sector that is growing rapidly, with exciting opportunities for the nation to create new, globally competitive industries and to support the growth of new high-tech jobs.
The Issues Paper, developed by the Expert Reference Group, provides the basis for an engagement on the key challenges and opportunities for Australia’s space industry.
The review is seeking views from across the spectrum of industry, government and the wider community.
In addition to inviting written submissions, the review will be conducting roundtable meetings with interested stakeholders in each state capital city.
This input will be used to inform the review’s findings and the development of the right strategic framework to support the growth of Australia’s space industry.
“Space-related products and services are used in virtually every sector of the Australian economy,” Dr Clark said.
“This review is an opportunity to understand the full impact of this activity across Australia and a broad consultation is integral to developing this understanding.”
The review will examine Australia’s current capability and areas of comparative advantage, as well as our regional and international collaboration within the sector.
Importantly, it will also consider how the space industry sector aligns with other sectors and government priorities.

Written submissions are to be provided by 22 August 2017 and consultation sessions will take place from late August to mid-September 2017.
