Premier Mark McGowan today congratulated BHP for its commitment to double the intake of apprenticeships and traineeships in 2018, creating new job opportunities for young Western Australians.
Next year, BHP will take on 200 apprentices and trainees, with the majority of positions to be offered to people who live locally in the Pilbara.
The 2018 intake will build on about 300 apprentices and trainees already employed in BHP’s iron ore business in WA.
The McGowan Government will maximise the number of apprenticeships and trainees created on government contracts through the introduction of Western Australian Industry Participation Plans.
Premier Mark McGowan said “I congratulate BHP on the expansion of its apprenticeship and traineeship program.
“Creating these extra positions will give more young Western Australians the opportunity to gain invaluable on-site training and set them on an employment path into the future.”
