New CT scanner for Geraldton as planning begins for major hospital expansion

Health Minister Roger Cook has today announced Geraldton Health Campus is set to receive a new 64-slice, state-of-the-art CT scanner worth more than $500,000.

The funding, secured under the Department of Health’s Medical Equipment Replacement Program, was confirmed during the Minister’s visit to the Mid-West region.

Mr Cook also announced project planning had officially begun for stage one of the Geraldton Health Campus redevelopment.

As part of the 2018-19 State Budget, $73.3 million in funding has been secured which delivers a key election commitment to the people of the Mid-West region to strengthen quality healthcare and create jobs.

The staged expansion of Geraldton Health Campus will see:

The development of an acute psychiatric unit and mental health short stay unit will enable patients in the Mid-West to remain in their community while receiving care for mental health issues.

Mid-West residents will also benefit from a $10.2 million investment into a community mental health Step Up/Step Down service, which will be delivered through a purpose-built 10-bed facility – located off campus.
