Acclaimed artist to take Perth Festival helm

Iain Grandage has been named as the next Artistic Director of Perth Festival for 2020 to 2023.

Raised and educated in Perth, Mr Grandage is one of Australia’s most respected and acclaimed collaborative artists, having won Helpmann Awards for music directing and for theatre, dance, opera and silent film compositions.

The festival programming of the Port Fairy Spring Music Festival was also highly regarded under his direction.

Mr Grandage’s experience with Perth Festival includes the musical direction of Home, the opening performance of the 2016 festival. Home celebrated 40,000 years of Aboriginal culture, shining a light on Western Australian stories and landscapes.

Mr Grandage will build on the outstanding achievements of current artistic director Wendy Martin, who has delivered the last three festivals.

The Perth Festival is Australia’s longest running arts festival, established in 1953 as the Festival of Perth by The University of Western Australia Professor Fred Alexander.
