A leading Western Australian secondary school principal has been appointed as the foundation principal of Inner City College.
John Burke, currently principal of Belridge Secondary College, will take up the position in July 2018 and lead the establishment of the new Subiaco school for its opening in 2020.
Mr Burke has a strong track record in school leadership over the past decade, including as principal of Belridge Secondary College since 2015; principal of Hedland Senior High School from 2011 to 2015; and, from 2007 to 2010, as associate principal at Kwinana Senior High School through its transition to Gilmore College.
Mr Burke has extensive experience leading school reform to improve outcomes for students.
He is an Independent Public School Principal Fellow, having completed an intensive leadership program in conjunction with Harvard University Graduate School of Education in 2016-17.
Inner City College is being built on Kitchener Park in Subiaco for students from Years 7 to 12. The school will run a Gifted and Talented Program for the State’s most able students.
