Wanneroo Road congestion relief is on the way

Congestion relief for commuters in Perth’s northern suburbs is a step closer with industry asked to submit proposals for the design and build of the new Wanneroo Road and Ocean Reef Road interchange.

Federal Minister for Urban Infrastructure and Cities Paul Fletcher said the project would support 350 jobs and was one of three major upgrades planned for Perth’s northern corridor, along with the widening of Wanneroo Road between Joondalup Drive and Flynn Drive and an upgrade of the Wanneroo Road and Joondalup Drive intersection.

“This project will future-proof the road network in Perth’s northern suburbs – we are planning ahead for the traffic growth that will come from the residential and industrial development in this area,” Mr Fletcher said.

The construction of the new bridge, with on and off ramps managed by traffic signals, will be introduced to improve traffic flow at the intersection.

The intersection of Wanneroo Road and Ocean Reef Road is one of the most congested in the Perth metropolitan area.

The Australian Government has committed $51.8 million to fund the $64.8 million project, with Western Australia committing the remaining $12.96 million. A contract award is anticipated in late 2018.
