Man extradited to Perth over decades-old child sexual assault offences

Derby Detectives with the assistance of Queensland Police have successfully sought the extradition of a 77 year old man from Charter Towers in Queensland in relation to historic child sexual offences. The extradited man will arrive in Perth with Derby detectives this afternoon (2 May 2018).

It is alleged between 1975 and 1989, the man sexually assaulted five boys aged between eight and 17 at the time of the first offence. It is further alleged the man used his position as a school gardener and his involvement in a local Motocross club in the west Kimberley area to groom young boys.

He has been charged with 30 offences consisting of:

  • 14 counts of Indecent Treatment of a Child under 14 years;
  • Six counts of Committed Indecent Practices between Males in Public or Private;
  • Four counts of Permits a Male Person to have Carnal Knowledge Against Order of Nature;
  • Four counts of Carnal Knowledge against Nature; and
  • Two counts of Attempted Carnal Knowledge.
  • He is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court on Thursday, 3 May 2018.

The investigation is ongoing and police are compiling a timeline of where the man resided from 1975 until he was located in Queensland. In early 1986 the man moved from Derby to Kununurra and also resided mainly in caravan parks across the top end of Australia. It is believed he resided in Katherine for a period of time in 2010.
