The frequency of train services on the Fremantle and Midland lines will be boosted by 2021 as part of its METRONET expansion.
Passengers at stations between Claremont and Bayswater will have a train every five minutes during peak periods, once track and station upgrades are completed in coming years.
A tender released today calls for engineering and design services for the upgrade of the train station, two additional turnbacks, and platform extension and track realignment works at Claremont.
The track works will be undertaken to enable trains travelling from the Forrestfield-Airport Link to turn around just west of Claremont Station.
These upgrades mean Fremantle Line passengers connecting at Claremont Station and the city will have a direct link through to the Forrestfield-Airport Link, including Airport Central Station.
In addition to the station and track upgrades, the State Government’s land development agency, LandCorp, has been maximising opportunities for residential and commercial development within the Claremont Station precinct.
The Claremont Station tender announcement follows the start of community consultation for the METRONET upgrade of Bayswater Station, which will enhance the Bayswater town centre and increase public open space.
Initiatives to create METRONET-style precincts are also being planned at other stations between Claremont and Bayswater, such as Meltham, West Leederville, Shenton Park and City West.
The project is funded from within the existing Forrestfield-Airport Link budget and was accounted for in the 2016-17 State Budget. It is anticipated that all rail works will be delivered by late 2020.
