WA Seniors Card celebrates 30 years of benefits for older Western Australians

The State Government today celebrated 30 years of the WA Seniors Card – the Australian-first concessions program for seniors, since replicated throughout the country to great success.

Seniors and Ageing Minister Mick Murray joined stakeholders from the seniors and ageing space to celebrate the scheme – the most generous of its kind in Australia.

The WA Seniors Card was launched on 19 April 1988 and was the brainchild of schoolteacher and former Royal Australian Air Force serviceman Fred Carden, who established the Seniors Citizens Concession Committee and engaged with businesses to shore up support for the scheme.

The anniversary was celebrated at the Aquarium of Western Australia. Special guests included Seniors Card members, volunteers and Nan Milton of Duncraig, who turned 100 today (23 April).
